WEF Seeks Control Over All Farms In UK Through The Government.
"Projection for total control made for 2024."
The Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) to support farmers through the agricultural transition period has been launched through the changes in consultation. The UK Government had earlier in May published a consultation on changes to the BPS which was to assist farmers through the agricultural transition period from the onset till 2027 to uplift the farming system in England.
The focus of the consultation is on easy retirement or transition from the industry for farmers who desire to do so but cannot for financial reasons. The government has proposed to help them do this in a well planned and managed way.
The essence of the consultation is to determine who is eligible for such assistance and to calculate how the payments are made. The current Delinked payments – Direct Payments made through the Basic Payments Scheme offers poor value for money and are based on how much land a farmer has; inflated rents and discouragements from new entrees also follow suit.
The government plans to institute phases to issue out the payments over a seven year period in transition to a fairer system. The consultation includes plans to separate the payment from the amount of land farmed from 2024.
This will make the process for farmers much more simple, enable them to focus on running their business, and encourage them to take up the government’s new environmental land management schemes, that will reward sustainable food production and environmental improvements. This means that by 2024 the UK government would be in control and manage all the farms.
