Labour Party Presidential Candidate Proffers Solution to Agitators.

Peter Gregory Obi speaks extensively at The People's Town Hall on January 8th, 2023.

Former Anambra state governor revealed that he would have a discussion with agitators all over the country if elected in the upcoming elections.

He mentioned during The People's Town hall on Sunday, a live conference organised by Channels Television and its partners that people have every right to agitate as it is their fundamental human right. He expressed that this should be addressed by the government through dialogue rather than subdued.

Speaking further, he mentioned that agitation is not out of place in democracy, making reference to children and parents at home. He elucidated that when children agitate, parents sit them down and explain things to them which causes them to see reason and agree with them.

He emphasised that these agitators will stop if they see things working the way it should and if they understand the decision of the government, promising this if elected in the February presidential elections.

"We are in a democratic dispensation; you govern by discussing, you govern by consensus. So, I will sit down and discuss with every agitator without exception of name. We must use carrot and stick (approach),

I will discuss with those who want to discuss. You have to look at what is causing agitations today; it is issues of injustice, issues of where there is no fairness, issues to do with poverty, unemployment.

When you start to address these issues and you engage them in discussions and you start bringing them to the table, no agitator anywhere in the world will see the reason that things are going the way they ought to and will continue to agitate because they are agitating for something.”

He expressed that discussion is the best way to end agitation, preventing crisis by injustice, unawareness and uncertainty.

The presidential candidate also spoke significantly on Nigeria's debt stock - over 77 trillion - which he described as being caused by mindless borrowing, being the simplest way to destroy the country's economy. He stressed that he would borrow money only for crucial investments and utilisation in critical sectors of the economy.

He envisioned economic progress for the country if elected alongside his running mate, Yusuf Baba- Ahmed who is a renowned successful businessman. Obi spoke of his success in Anambra as Governor, how the country was driven from despair to prosperity by putting good use of his leadership in every aspect.

He stated his success in putting off the protracted activity of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) strike while he was governor, emphasising that his dispute and resolution mechanism through adoption of unconventional skills has prevented strike in the state till this date.

Peter Obi expounded that education and health would be given priority by setting up a loan scheme for parents that would make payment of school fees easier and providing health access. He also explained that he would adopt the manner of countries who have succeeded and put it to use in the oil sector.

The Labour Party flag bearer and his running mate conveyed that Nigerians should critically analyse the ethics and character of the candidates to choose wisely and declared themselves the candidacy without corruption that will keep Nigeria moving forward in education, agriculture, health, technology and security.
