Tinubu Emerges As APC Flag Bearer For 2023 Presidential Election.
More than 2,300 delegates from Nigeria's ruling party met at Eagle's Square in Abuja on Tuesday 7th June, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its primaries to choose its candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress party (APC) started the selection process in the early hours of Wednesday 8th June in primaries to choose a candidate for the 2023 presidential race.
According to reports, Tinubu polled over 50 per cent (with over 1271 votes) of the total votes cast in the ongoing presidential primary of the party in Abuja.
Meanwhile, other aspirants who also put up a good fight include, Rotimi Amaechi and Yemi Osinbajo, who got 316 and 235 votes respectively.
The exercise which ran through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning followed the clearance of 23 aspirants to contest for the party’s presidential ticket.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari did not declared support for any of the candidates. However, he urged the delegates to choose a " knowledgeable, fair-minded nationalist "
The results of the primary was unveiled afterwards with Bola Ahmed Tinubu also known as the 'Jagaban' emerging as the party's flag bearer with a total vote count of 1271 delegates’ votes.
